Five of the best DJ builds we've ever put together, to celebrate Airdrop's fifth birthday.

Recently Airdrop turned five years old, and to mark the occasion we had a small batch of special frames prepared with a polished finish. The original plan was to sell them as limited edition frames but as soon as we saw them we knew we had to push harder to build them into bikes. These five limited edition builds are the result.

First of all, let's talk about the forks. Anyone who was around back in the day will understand the status that the original Bomber DJ fork has. When the opportunity came up to grab some of the new forks, we took it and we've been saving them for a special project ever since.

That set the tone for a bike that's gonna allow the most skilled riders to push their level so the choice of Title MTB finishing kit made itself. Title kit is simple, clean and beautifully crafted. This is the first production bike we've built to feature a gyro. It has Title's entire G1 system (lever, cables and gyro) paired up with a BB5 caliper.

The rest of the build is all tried & tested kit of the finest order: Halo Chaos DJ wheels, Maxxis DTH tyres, Descendant 6k cranks and a BSD 1991 half-link chain. Only five will be made.

This bike will be released at 9am on Thursday 1st April.

£1999

Airdrop Fade 5th Anniversary ltd edition

The finish on our 5th Anniversary ltd edition might look like chrome, but it's actually raw alloy burnished to a mirror finish, with a clear gloss powdercoat applied on top. Nice.

Marzocchi Bomber DJ

The new Marzocchi Bomber DJ looks like it might just live up to the reputation of it's illustrious predecessor.

Title GS1 Gyro System

Title MTB's GS1 gyro system set up with the Title ST1 alloy stem and AH1 bar.

Title JS1 Saddle

Title JS1 dirt-jump specific saddle on a Title seatpost and seat clamp.

Halo Chaos DJ Wheelset

Halo Chaos DJ (bushdrive) wheelset and Maxxis DTH tyres. The drivetrain is a Descendant 6k alloy crank arm, SRAM X-Sync 28t chainring and BSD 1991 1/2 link chain. Note that the Avid BB5 cable-actuated disc caliper is actually the road version which pulls slightly less cable. This is what Title recommends to get the most out of the GS1 gyro system.

Frequently Asked Questions

We are receiving hundreds of enquiries about these bikes which we're always happy to help with, but as they're all very similar we thought it best to publish some of the more frequently asked questions here:

How much is this build?
The Fade 5th Anniversary ltd edition is £1999.

How many will be available?
Only 5 of these ltd editions will be built.

When will it be released?
Thursday 1st April at 9am (BST).

Can I preorder one?
No. With demand being so high, preorders would be selling months (or even years) in advance. Instead, we’re giving everyone who wants one the same chance to get one on 1st April. It’s the fairest way.

Can I buy it online?
Once released, the Fade 5th Anniversary ltd edition can be bought online here.

Can I buy it by phone?
As we expect them to sell very quickly, it’s not possible to buy the Fade Title ltd edition over the phone.

If I buy one, when will it ship?
We expect to ship these mid-April although it’s possible that it may take a little longer.

Can I make changes to the spec?
No. These builds have been planned and the parts bought months in advance so it’s not possible for us to make changes.

What if I don’t manage to get one?
We’re working as hard as we can to try to build enough bikes for everyone, but as a small business it’s not always possible. We have another batch of Fade frames due in soon and we’ll do our best to secure more stock. Although we don’t repeat ltd editions, we are planning new ltd editions for later in the year as well as standard Luxe and Works builds.

Can I buy the Fade frame only?
Yes, when the next batch of frames arrive in May.

Do you ship outside the UK?
Yes, with some limitations. The website will allow customers in the EU to buy subject to the new international taxes applicable. The website will not accept orders from outside the EU. Under normal circumstances we can take international orders as custom orders but as these bikes are likely to sell out within minutes, it won’t be possible to do that.

When can we expect it to be available in US? Crazy demand for DJs in California alone and I’ve been trying to get one for over a year…
