To celebrate Airdrop's 5th anniversary we're producing just five of these Edit v4 bikes with a limited edition polished finish and an Ultimate level build kit.
It's been five years since Ed launched Airdrop Bikes out of his garage in Sheffield. Since then we've moved a short distance to our new workshop but we've come a long way as a brand. So to celebrate Airdrop's fifth anniversary we've put together a special run of limited edition Edit v4 frames and bikes - just five of each.
The idea was simple: make the best bike we can right now. So the frame is the Edit v4 with it's new geometry and one-piece CNC rocker, but with a ltd edition polished finish. That's wrapped up in a clear gloss powder-coat so it looks bling and it'll stay bling. The rear shock is the peerless EXT Storia Lok v3 which should need no introduction. Hand-built, custom-tuned awesomeness from Italy with a bit of Mojo Rising's wizardry thrown in. Up front we've specced the Lyrik Ultimate RC2 in black with chrome decals. That's where things get really interesting; the drivetrain is a mix of SRAM XX1 and X01 Eagle AXS - yes it's the wireless one. We've mixed XX1 to get the rainbow chain & cassette with X01 to get the red carbon cranks and red rear mech. That's tied in with the Reverb AXS wireless. The brakes are SRAM Code RSC and we've specced rainbow bolts on the calliper and lever clamp.
A spec like that needs some quality wheels so we've gone all-in with silver Industry 9 Hydra hubs and DT EX511 rims. We're building those in-house with Wheelsmith double-butted spokes and brass nipples. You get the legendary Industry 9 build quality and the near-instant 0.52° engagement laced to world cup DH level rims. They're shod in WTB's grippiest tyre combination - Verdict 2.5" front and Judge 2.4" rear. There's an MRP SXG chainguide and the cockpit is Burtec Ridewide Carbon bars, Enduro mk3 stem and Bartender Pro grips.
This is the first and only time in five years this bike will be available and remember - there are only five getting made.
Choosing the right spring rate is key to getting the most out of a coil shock. Work out your total rider weight - including your normal riding kit - then use this chart to choose a spring. You can use the shock's preload adjuster to do the fine tuning later.
The EXT Storia Lok shock comes with two springs, so choose the right rate for your normal riding weight and a different spare. For example you may choose a heavier second spring for longer rides where you'll have more kit or a bigger pack.
These spring rates are calculated based on the Edit v4's kinematics. Even if you're used to running coil shocks on other bikes, you may need to check the right spring for the Edit. These calculations are based on 33% sag and a 65% rear / 35% front weight bias. On the Edit's 205mm shock length, 33% sag measures at 185mm eye-to-eye.
